Tim Wakefield does have a one-game losing streak at Tropicana Field, but don’t be fooled. The domed home of the Tampa Bay Rays has been a personal paradise for Wakefield over the years. In 20 career appearances in St. Petersburg, Fla., Wakefield is 9-1 with three saves and 2.41 ERA.

The Red Sox were all lined up for a clean getaway on Thursday afternoon. Highly touted prospect Justin Masterson, summoned from Double-A Portland for an emergency start, pitched brilliantly. But once he exited after six fine innings, it all fell apart.

Though you can still hear the coughs and the deeper than normal voices throughout the clubhouse, the Red Sox are getting healthier. This, on the heels of a week in which a rampant flu bug has caused some serious havoc.
